A young woman has been arrested in Thailand after killing her elderly hairdresser for a bad haircut.
Client Araya Sra-On, 22, was arrested on 4 September for allegedly robbing and brutally murdering a seventy-seven-year-old hairdresser, Banyat Kanthong, at a hair salon in Phitsanulok.
The victim's daughter-in-law, Manat Kanthongchuchok, 46, reported the incident to Phitsanulok police station on 3 September, shortly after discovering her mother-in-law's body covered in blood in the toilet.
Police officials began their examination and found a deep, sharp wound with a fifteen centimetre long gash on his neck and a damaged trachea.
A gold necklace as well as a gold bracelet and a ring are reportedly missing from her body.
According to local witnesses and CCTV footage, a customer was seen entering the hairdresser's at around 9am before the customer and the owner, Banyat, started arguing.
The unidentified customer quickly left the shop and fled in a red sidecar.
Police finally identified the motorbike captured on the video and interviewed the rider early this morning.
Araya was arrested and is accused of heartless behaviour, strangely claiming that she was not happy with the way the old hairdresser had cut her hair, which is why she killed her.
Police Colonel Phakphum Prapsiphum, Phitsanulok police chief, told reporters that police did not believe her initial confession and would continue to investigate the case because she had allegedly stolen gold paraphernalia that had not yet been recovered.
They believe that the murder was not simply an argument about a haircut.
Araya was initially charged with intentional murder and theft and is being held at Phitsanulok police station.
The chief told the Associated Press:
"The suspect said she threw away the victim's gold necklace, bracelet and ring as she walked away from the scene.
The police are now looking for the evidence.
"The further investigation will focus on the homicide.
Further charges will be laid if we find that the suspect killed intentionally and made it look like an accident.
