A brave Thai woman saved her husband from a wild elephant attack by shouting and banging on things on Sunday (29 December).
Supat Klonsalab, 33, a rubber tapper from Bueng Kan in northeast Thailand, is now being treated in a local hospital.
Fortunately, his injuries from being trampled by the elephant were not serious.
Primanee Chairat, 37, said the elephant caught her and her husband off guard, adding that wild elephants do not usually roam the area.
She said that when she found the elephant trampling on her husband, she quickly grabbed objects and banged them together to make noise and scare the animal.
The head of the Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary, Taweep Khamphaengmuang, explained that elephants sometimes leave the sanctuary in search of food.
He offered money to cover Supat's medical bill and some gifts.
To keep elephants away, Taweep recommends that residents place bright lights around the perimeter of their property and burn chillies.
