In Thailand there is a color for each day of the week

Thailand influenced by Indian culture has adopted the cult of the planets, Navagrahâ.

There is a color for each day of the week that corresponds to a god representing a planet.

Navagraha are the planets and astronomical phenomena that in the Indian cosmological system are supposed to influence human destinies as well as the course of nature.

Monday: yellow, god Chandra, the Moon

Tuesday: pink, god Mangala, Mars

Wednesday: green, god Budha, Mercury

Thursday: orange, god Brihaspati, Jupiter

Friday: sky blue, god Shukra, Venus

Saturday: purple, god Shani, Saturn

Sunday: red, god Surya, the Sun

On Monday many Thai people are dressed in yellow to show their attachment to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej born on a Monday and in blue on Friday, the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit Kitiyakorn.

Update 2018: After the death of SM Bhumibol Adulyadej, his son SM Maha Vajiralongkorn ascended the throne, and as he was born on a Monday like his father, the color does not change.

These colors are also found on the Thai flags of the royal family.

Settled in Thailand since a few years (with trips to Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia), I love this country and its inhabitants, the real country of Smiles! Sorry for any translation errors that may occur. Feel free to mention them in the comments, I will correct them. Thank you.
