July 28 is the birthday of the King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn or Rama X in Thailand.

HM Maha Vajiralongkorn was born on 28 July 1952, he is the only son of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the Queen Mother Sirikit.

Rama X has ruled Thailand since 13 October 2016.

Previously, this holiday was celebrated on his father's birthday, 5 December, but from 2017 the date has been changed for the new king.

However, 5 December remains a public holiday and Father's Day in honour of Rama IX.

If 28 July falls on a weekend, the following Monday will be a public holiday.
