He orders 550 coffees, doesn't pay and manages to steal 224 euros

How a Thai man walked into a cafe, ordered 550 drinks, didn't pay and also managed to steal 8,250 baht (224 euros) from the business.

The story of this surprising scam that took place in a café in the Huay Khwang district of Bangkok was posted on the Facebook page "Social Hunter Reborn V3" on 12 December 2022.

The page states:

"Attention, an elegant man pretending to be a bank employee came into a café.

He orders 550 coffees, doesn't pay and manages to steal 224 euros

The thief caught on a surveillance camera in the café.

He ordered 550 cups of coffee at 45 baht per cup (1.22 euro), for a total bill of 24,750 baht (673 euro).

The man asked to put the coffee in bottles.

He then asked for a new invoice showing that the coffee was sold at 60 baht per cup, for a total of 33,000 baht (897.54 baht).

He wanted the company to give him the difference of 8,250 baht (224.39 euros) in cash and put it in an envelope.

He also asked an employee of the café to accompany him to the bank located in a shopping centre.

The employee followed him and asked him to wait outside the bank.

The man entered the bank to take the 33,000 baht in cash.

The problem is that he never came back outside.

The employee went to talk to someone at the bank and that's when the truth came out.

The café filed a complaint with the police.

After the story was posted online, some internet users did not feel sorry for the business.

Internet users wondered why the shop did not find it suspicious that one person ordered 550 coffees at a time.

They also wondered how he was able to leave the bank without being noticed by the café employee.

The bank was inside a shopping centre and the doors were clear.

They also did not like the fact that the shop agreed to write a false invoice that lied about the real price of the coffee.

It is also possible that the fraudster offered to give the café staff a commission in exchange for the false invoice, as is normally done.

This part would have been omitted, of course, when the complaint was made to the police.
