Legend of Thailand

The legend of the beautiful fickle girl tells how a young woman married to an older man manages to deceive her world with her lover.

In the city of Lopburi, there was a merchant couple with a big age difference: the man was twenty years older than his wife.

She took a lover, and when the husband was asleep, she went to meet him downstairs in the shop.

One evening, after much lovemaking, the lovers fell asleep in each other's arms instead of separating discreetly.

The shopkeeper's father, who was passing by during one of his sleepless nights, saw the two figures on the floor.

He quietly approached and, understanding his daughter-in-law's betrayal, stole a bracelet from her to prove his point the next day when he would reveal the truth to his son.

Waking up just as her father-in-law was leaving, the woman immediately realised the situation and came up with a plan.

She began by sending her lover home before returning to the marital bed.

There she woke up her husband and told him that it was too hot, that she could not sleep, and she asked him if it was possible to sleep in the shop.

The husband agreed, they moved into the shop, and the man went back to sleep.

His wife woke him up again, crying out that a thief had broken into the room and stolen a bracelet.

The husband, leaping out into the street, saw no one, and could only return to console his weeping wife.

The next day, at dawn, the merchant's father arrived at his son's house and told him the whole story, holding up the bracelet as proof.

But the shopkeeper laughed and told her that it was he who was in the shop and not a hypothetical lover.

Despite all his attempts, the father could not convince his son and returned home discomfited.
