The cursed wedding is a Thai legend about how a man of ill repute and a gossip sabotaged a wedding.
In Ratchaburi there lived a young man named Nai Kaeo, who was turned towards pleasures, especially those provided by the caresses of women.
Despite this depraved life, he fell in love with the beautiful and virtuous Meh Pian.
Nai Kaeo's parents went to the girl's parents to ask for her hand in marriage, but the parents refused to unite their child with a suitor who had such a bad reputation.
On the contrary, the next day they accepted the proposal of Nai Tong's parents, an honest and hardworking boy.
Desperate about the turn of events, Nai Kaeo confessed his torment to the old hairdresser who was also the worst gossip in the whole town.
The old woman agreed to help him in exchange for a substantial sum of money.
She immediately paid a visit to the bride's best friend, who wanted a beautiful hairdo for the ceremony.
As the conversation progressed, the hairdresser suggested that the marriage was a big mistake, and when the girl asked why, she replied that Nai Kaeo was a ghoul.
Moreover, her words would be very easy to verify on the wedding night, the bride would suddenly see a tail growing on her husband's buttocks, and it would be enough for her to seize it to take control of the creature.
A few hours later, the hairdresser went to Nai Tong's best friend's house, who was also preparing for the upcoming party.
One thing led to another, and the old woman told the young man that the marriage would be unhappy.
In the face of her client's disbelief, she explained that the bride was in fact a ghoul.
Moreover, on the wedding night, the bridegroom would do well to be on his guard to catch the creature's hand before it touches him.
Happy with her plan, the hairdresser returned to Nai Kaeo.
He was horrified to learn that the wedding would take place, but his accomplice told him not to worry.
Despite what their friends told them, the two engaged couples did not discuss these suspicions among themselves, and in any case it was too late to cancel the wedding.
So the ceremony took place, in a very tense atmosphere, and the wedding night arrived.
Nai Tong lay on his side, with his back to his wife, so as not to show her that he was not sleeping.
For her part, Meh Pian put her hand forward, ready to grab the smallest semblance of a tail that would appear.
Unable to bear it any longer, the husband turned around and screamed in terror when he saw his wife's hand ready to touch him.
He grabbed the threatening hand, causing Meh Pian to panic and think it was an attack.
The two spouses went their separate ways.
In the wake of the scandal that followed that disastrous night, and the rumours that began to spread at great speed, the wedding was quickly cancelled.
Meh Pian, whose reputation had been damaged, had to accept Nai Kaeo's offer of marriage.
History does not say what happened to their union, the chronicles are silent on this subject, and perhaps with good reason...
