Thai man reportedly wins lottery with ChatGPT

A Thai man said on Facebook that he had won money in the lottery thanks to the numbers given by the artificial intelligence, which were 57, 27, 29 and 99.

But the winner, Patthawikorn Boonin, only got one number right thanks to AI (or chance), which earned him 2,000 baht (€53.73).

The winning two-digit number announced that day was 99, which was one of the numbers generated by ChatGPT.

Patthawikorn said:

"It's time to pray to the robot!

Because Thai gamblers, besides going to temples, are used to praying or using all sorts of things in order to get the winning numbers.

This may be the song of the gecko Tokayor an original event such as a giant mango, a four-legged henor a blue snake.

Patthawikorn's social media post quickly caught the attention of the Thai gaming community, with over 2,700 reactions and 1,200 comments.

While some were enthusiastic about using ChatGPT to generate winning lottery numbers, others were sceptical.

Some have suggested that the numbers were just a random set that Patthawikorn chose himself and that he was lucky that one of them matched the result.

Others asked him to prove how he had asked ChatGPT to provide the numbers.

Patthawikorn gave an interview to Thai newspaper CatDumb, where he explained that he had asked ChatGPT for the winning lottery numbers several times before.

Patthawikorn revealed that he had asked the AI directly what the winning numbers would be, but ChatGPT replied that it was unpredictable and a matter of luck.

The chatbot even advised him to stop obsessing about the lottery and to exercise.

However, Patthawikorn did not give up and tried to ask the AI again in a different way.

He entered hypothetical situations as well as historical statistics of winning numbers from the last ten years, and the chatbot gave him a calculation formula and numbers.

Experts have yet to clearly explain how ChatGPT can provide the winning numbers, but many Thai netizens are eagerly awaiting the next AI-generated numbers to find out if Patthawikorn's success was a fluke or if ChatGPT can actually predict the lottery results.
