Songkran, the Thai New Year

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is planning a lively Songkran 2023 festival, while the previous two celebrations were cancelled due to the pandemic.

The Songkran is a festival celebrating the New Year according to the Buddhist calendar and will take place from 13 to 16 April 2023 throughout Thailand.

But the dates of the celebrations vary from city to city.

This is the most important festival in the country, and many Thais who work in remote areas return home to their families on this occasion.

The festival is world famous and popular with tourists for its great water fights.

TAT expects tourism to pick up during the Thai New Year holiday, said its governor, Yuthasak Supasorn.

He believes that people will want to enjoy water fights on hot summer days.

TAT will sponsor the organisation of the festival celebrations at major venues such as Chiang Mai and Bangkok and will focus on the preservation of Thai culture and tradition.
