The Sanctuary of Truth is a magnificent wooden temple, built according to the ancient tradition and covered with sculpture, a gigantic work of art that you must see if you are in Pattaya.
Description of the Sanctuary of Truth
It is a 105-metre high wooden construction with a surface area of almost 4000 m2.
It was built to withstand the salt wind and sun, as it is located on the seashore.
The building was built using ancient and traditional Thai techniques, with every square inch covered with wooden carvings.
The project was initiated by Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant in 1981 and is expected to be completed in 2025.
Lek Viriyaphant, who passed away a few years ago, is also the creator of the Ancient City Park and the Erawan Museum.
It is a long-term construction as the White Temple of Chiang Rai.
The sanctuary of truth has four gopuras (entrances), representing images of the Buddhist and Hindu religions and mythologies of Cambodia, China, India and Thailand respectively.
According to the designers :
"The aims of decorating with woodcarvings are to use art and culture as a reflection of the ancient vision of the Earth, of Ancient Knowledge and Eastern Philosophy.
In this complex, visitors will understand ancient life, human responsibility, basic thinking, the life cycle, life's relationship with the universe and life's common goal towards utopia.
