Unusual: The story of a Thai grandfather who died and came back to life with a craving for fresh blood has gone viral on Thai social networks.
On 12 December, the grandfather had a strange thirst for blood.
Worried, his grandson went to see a psychic on the 16th who told him that the grandfather had a spirit waiting to use his body and that his soul would leave on the 18th.
When the 18th arrived, the grandson found his grandfather unconscious and could not find a heartbeat.
After 10 minutes, the two sons went to kiss their grandfather one last time, but suddenly the grandfather woke up with more energy than ever.
The family therefore believes, as the seer had predicted, that another spirit now lives in the grandfather's body.
Since that day, the grandfather asks for blood or raw food at 1 or 2 in the morning.
If he does not get blood or raw food, he gets angry and screams at his family.
The distraught family shared the story on Thai social networks and the post went viral.

A scientific explanation

The revived grandfather and Dr. Weerasak Charatchaisri
Following this high-profile case, Dr Weerasak Charatchaisri posted a message on Facebook to reassure the public on 26 December 2022.
The doctor raised several points to explain the grandfather's behaviour.
He stated that the grandfather suffered from a liver disease in 2018, but was able to work normally.
Then two months ago he got worse and was sleeping all the time.
The doctor explained that the grandfather had a brain disease related to his liver disease.
He believes that the low blood pressure caused his heartbeat to slow down, so that the son thought his father was dead.
When his body was moved or hugged or shaken, the grandfather woke up.
He was not really dead and just came back to life.
The doctor asks the family to take the grandfather to hospital for medical treatment.
Without proper treatment, his condition will only worsen and death will await him.
Brain diseases related to liver disease present symptoms such as confusion, anxiety and personality change.
